About the book
Zacchaeus climbed a sycamore tree only hoping to see Jesus. Instead, Jesus stopped, called him by name and went home with him. This short book walks slowly through Luke 19:1-10, drawing out what the encounter teaches about being known by God, the transforming power of His presence, and how ministers and all believers should look at, speak to and spend time with the “Zacchaeuses” around them.
An earlier edition of the same text was published as Look at Zacchaeus (first edition, 16 October 2018, by PDS).
Dedication
This book is dedicated to all new believers and the soon to be. Even while we were yet sinners, God loved us. You are passionately loved, dear.
Read a sample: Called by Name
What a privilege had he! And how different are we? The most sought – Messiah – chose the house of this controversial tax collector for an abiding. And what more was honoring? The manner in which He affectionately called him, “Come down Zacchaeus.” He was called by name, not as another stranger. He called him by name. The Son of God, the King Himself was low on the ground and looked up towards the poor humble spirit of a man only rich in money and extortion.
Jesus called Zacchaeus by name. There were thousands Jesus ministered to and hundreds that were following him. Isn’t it a blessing in itself that you are not just a face in the crowd? Zacchaeus was not just another face in the multitude; he was known by the Messiah already. We have all been called by name as Zacchaeus was called. We are not irrelevant to Him. Our name is on His mind.
After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name. After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself. And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun. So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? Romans 8:30-31, MSG
And while saying that the names of all the billions in the world are known to Him proves Him awesome, I want to rather be personal with this one. That is, He knows your name. You are not unknown to God. You don’t really need to introduce yourself to Him; He knows you.
