In the last episode, we looked at Micaiah’s public declaration of truth in the face of falsehood, likening it to polemics. Today, we are supposed to take a second lesson from his example. However, to keep this post short, we will take an introduction and discuss the second lesson from Micaiah’s example better in the subsequent posts.
- HE REVEALED THE FALSEHOOD (A)
Usually, people are okay with us stating “our truth” as long as we don’t declare that they are wrong. That kind of diplomacy requires a truth waiver. We do not waive truth in matters of quality assurance but we want to waive it in matters of salvation. It is so dangerous that I wonder why we do that.
When it comes to our physical abodes, we want a sure foundation. Why do we say “Anything goes” when it comes to salvation and doctrine? When we want to buy an iPhone, we look for the right one. Why do we accept conflicting doctrines with no regard for whether they are original and correct or they are fake? We want to marry correct spouses but we don’t care about correct religion or doctrine. Some of these religious doctrines have eternal consequences. Let’s give more concern to religious truth.
King Jehoshaphat wanted God’s assurance in the battle against Ramoth Gilead. He wouldn’t risk his life and that of his warriors on shaky hope when there was a way to know the mind of God on the matter. Should we then risk our eternity on probabilities when God has spoken?
On the arrival of Prophet Micaiah, he did not only speak the truth, he also revealed the alternative as false. We dig further tomorrow, God willing. We have been learning from 1 Kings 22.
Let us conclude this episode by asking this important question. Why do we seek truth in material matters but not in spiritual and eternal matters? You want truth from your bankers but not your preachers. Do you know the value of spiritual truth? Do you know the danger of religious fallacies? Jehoshaphat sought to be armed with truth in the battle against Ramoth Gilead. How important is truth to you, especially in matters of faith/religion?
‘Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.”’ (1 Kings 22:5, NKJV)
With love,
PDS.
