TO THE DEVIL’S ADVOCATES

There is a ‘Cobra’ group of believers who ask silly questions of God just to appeal to unbelievers. And that is a very dangerous dance! I am not merely being uncharitable towards them in my words when I call their questions silly. It is silly to have answers and yet ask questions that feed the skepticism of others without providing the answers you have. It is akin to being Satan’s lawyer. When you promote indifference towards the truth of the Bible by sounding unsure and neutral on matters even though you bear the Christian tag, you are the devil’s advocate.

It is either you don’t believe in the answers you have or you are on your way to that place. The mockery of unbelievers must not force you into admitting answerable questions as admissible dilemmas. That approach throws your hands in the air and calls for respect for the wrong view. What you are doing is a subtle compromise that reinforces the falsehood. And when you do this while claiming to privately know the truth, you are a Cobra. Your values are questionable. And indeed, your faith must be quickly rescued. We are not only to believe but also confess Jesus as Lord. That includes upholding the answers in God’s word instead of cuckooing the questions of the world.

We must be stern! To Christians who are happy to ask very populist questions about their own faith, remember the Bible commands you to have answers, not just questions. The Bible commands you to have answers for the questioning world of unbelievers about your faith, not to sing with them in a rather defeatist manner that does not glorify the Way, the Truth and the Life. That respectful defeatist “we all don’t know” approach is a lazy one. You are called into apologetics, not populist antics. You are not to please men but to serve God.

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;” (‭I Peter‬ ‭3:15‬, ‭NKJV‬)

There are Christians who have genuine questions. They may ask these questions. They should get answers from the Bible, where necessary with the help of other believers. I refer here to the ‘Cobras’ who seek the praise of some supposedly ‘woke’ audience, and subtly despise the answers in God’s word by echoing questions without answers while knowing the truth.

Shalom!
